Gindaiko (崟太鼓) was founded in 2004 to promote the art of Taiko drumming in Singapore. During our early days, we began giving lessons at the Tampines East Community Club and the Bukit Batok East Community Club. Today, we are actively promoting the art through hands on lessons at the Leng Kee and Yio Chu Kang Community Club. Gindaiko has been registered with the National Arts Council Arts Education Programme since January 2009.
The basic Taiko courses conducted by Gindaiko introduce students to the basics of playing percussion instruments. Lessons are conducted weekly and students will be taught how to read music manuscripts for drums, receive hands on experience playing with full sized drums and learn how to drum together as a team. At the end of our basic course, a student should be able to play some of the most popular Taiko pieces. As Taiko drumming is a performing art, students will also be encouraged to take part in public performances from time to time.
Taiko drumming is an exciting, challenging and energizing art form. It requires hand, eye, mind and whole body coordination and concentration. It is therefore also a great form of exercise and helps to build strength, stamina and quick reflexes.
Gindaiko welcomes enquiries from organizations that would like to engage us for performances. A Taiko performance is a loud, colourful and lively event. It is a great way to add oomph to opening ceremonies, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, product launches, Japanese themed fairs, activities and dinner-and-dances.
We offer a variety of drummer configurations to suit your needs and budget, from solo drummer (best suited for opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting ceremonies where space is limited) to groups of 4, 6 or more drummers.
